UNFORGETTABLE

Hole #16 is a challenging par 3 with an elevated series of tee boxes overlooking a large bentgrass green, a water hazard and bunker protecting the right side of the green. Although it is rated as the easiest hole on the course, the prevailing wind often will push your ball toward the water! The hole can play anywhere from 94 yards to about 160 yards from the back tee.

TESTER

Look out for hole #8. It's a 518 yard par 5 that has a large water hazard guarding the right side of the fairway and the front of the green, starting on your second shot. To make things more interesting, the fairway slopes toward the water with a couple of bunkers guarding the front of the green for good measure. If you manage to keep your ball dry on your second shot, you'll need to land your ball on one of three separate tiers on a large and undulating green.

DIRECTIONS

From north I-5, take north Broadway exit in Marysville (Hwy 529). Follow Hwy 529 across the Snohomish River. Immediately exit onto West Marine View Drive.
From south I-5, take exit #195 Marine View Drive. Turn left on East Marine View Drive and follow it around and under Hwy 529/North Broadway where it turns into West Marine View Drive. The course will be on your left.

Legion Memorial Golf Course was built in the 1930's and was owned by the American Legion until 1940. Steve Burns re-designed the course in 1996 and it was reopened to the public on September 1, 1998. The "new" course is one of the driest winter courses in the Northwest as a result of the improvements. Water hazards and sand bunkers add beauty, challenge and playability to the course. The Olympics and the Cascades as well as Mt. Rainier and Mt. Baker and the Puget Sound can be seen from various parts of the course.

What frustrates you about having a remodeled course? - MIKE COURY

Our "new" course is so nice, now that its been remodeled, and we see so many people just trying to destroy it. I think that all new golfers could benefit from an etiquette workshop or class. Before golfers hit the courses, they really need to understand some of the basic rules. On TV, all people see is players hitting the ball or putting the ball, thus only giving people part of the message. More care should be taken to make sure golfers know what is to be expected of them when they come out to play!
